oxy acetylene welded steel angles, birch plywood, bamboo skewers
A first foray into welding, this project began with a desire to create an infinitely flexible knife rack from bamboo skewers, held by a steel structure. Knives can be placed into the rack wet - the bamboo skewers wick moisture away from metal and aerates through given windows in the rack. The rack is at a tilted angle for optimal reach and placement under a kitchen cabinet.
Moving beyond the prototype is minimizing the required steel for structure and eliminating the plywood from the rack.
